Nominees sought for drug-free lifestyles awards

HANO member agency Coalition for a Drug-Free Hawaii has announced the start of the 11th Annual Ola Pono Award program. The Ola Pono Awards recognize individuals, groups or businesses that make meaningful, substantial contributions to the community by promoting safe, healthy and drug-free lifestyles.

Cosponsors include the Department of the Attorney General-Crime Prevention & Justice Assistance Division, Department of Education, Safe & Drug-Free Schools and Communities Program, Oceanic Time Warner Cable, OC-16, Aloha United Way and Kaiser Permanente.

Previous nominees have included celebrities as American Idol contestant, Jordan Segundo to communities as the Kauai Safe & Drug-Free Committee to everyday people as Mere Taeu, a health aide at Wahiawa Elementary School — extraordinary people doing extraordinary things in the community in the area of safe, healthy and drug-free lifestyles.

Nominations are open through Dec. 1 and the award lunch is scheduled for Feb. 15, 2008 at the Willows Restaurant.
