Goodwill Industries of Hawaii Inc. has expanded to Kona on the west side of Hawaii Island with a new retail store and donation center. The store, at 74-4786 Kanalani St. in Kaloko Industrial Park, staged its soft opening Nov. 4 and will operate from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays.
It is the second Goodwill store in Hawaii County, allowing an option for residents to drop off used clothing and household items and to find good deals. The grand opening of this ninth Hawaii Goodwill store will be in December.
The nonprofit Lanakila Pacific opened a Lanakila Kitchen on Kauai’s South Side on Nov. 19, its first on a Neighbor Island. The kitchen is at 2-3687 Kaumualii Highway in Lawai on the former Mark’s Place site. It is a training program for people with disabilities and also offers breakfast and lunch options from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The kitchen is in a 1,650-square-foot space next to a Menehune Food Mart. It employs up to eight people and may expand in the future, according to Lanakila Pacific Marketing and Communications Manager Marlena Willette. All proceeds from the kitchen go directly to support training and employment opportunities for people with challenged lives on Kauai.
Lanakila Pacific now has two kitchens on Oahu, at Hickam Air Force Base and in Liliha. It has helped thousands of people on Oahu over the past 72 years. For more information go to http://www.lanakilakitchen.org.
