PUBLIC POLICY MAKING FOR HAWAII NONPROFITS

Learn the 'rules of engagement'

As government agencies contract out more and more services to the nonprofit sector, it is increasingly important for Hawai‘i nonprofits to have a seat at the public policy-making table, both to influence legislation and to share with Legislators the issues and concerns they face in delivering contracted services or completing their missions.

This half-day workshop is designed for executive directors, board members and staff involved in advocacy and legislative issues. It will highlight the critical elements and best practices of the public policy-making process for nonprofits and include an interactive discussion with Legislators.

You will learn:
  • How policy gets made – the administrative rule-making and legislative processes
  • The "rules of engagement" – when and how nonprofits can participate in policy making
  • Strategies to educate lawmakers about community and nonprofit issues
