Communicate more effectively about your nonprofit

HANO presents a three-hour workshop, Basic Public Relations, that will explore basic public relations concepts for nonprofit organizations, how public relations fits into an overall strategy, creating goals and objectives, understanding your audiences and creating relationships with the media and effectively pitching stories.

Click here to register today. Registration closes Tuesday, July 1. This workshop is designed for nonprofit executive directors and communications, marketing and fundraising staff. You will:

  • Identify activities within your organization that should be publicized.
  • Craft compelling messages about specific programs or your organization.
  • Develop at least one story idea to pitch to the media.
  • Learn how to pitch stories to the media or the appropriate target audience.
  • Learn about media lists, press kits, when (or if) to hold a press conference and how to issue press releases and advisories

Presenters are Piia M. Aarma and Valerie Moore. Aarma is founder and president of Pineapple Tweed Public Relations and Marketing, a full service firm that offers services ranging from media relations to advertising. Aarma has been involved in communications for more than 20 years. Moore brings an impressive background in market research and community relations to Pineapple Tweed. Her expertise covers a variety of areas from strategic and crisis communications to community and media relations. 

When: Tuesday, July 8, from 9 a.m. to noon; registration opens at 8:30 a.m.
Cost: $70 for HANO member organizations and AUW partner agencies; $100 for non-members.
