Hawai‘i hosts International Women's Leadership Conference

Register now for the fifth annual International Women's Leadership Conference, hosted by Governor Linda Lingle on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel.

At the 2008 International Women's Leadership Conference participants will network with the 1,200 other attendees and hear inspirational stories from a renowned group of women speakers from ten nations: the Philippines, United Kingdom, Finland, New Zealand, Uganda, China, Japan, Australia, Sudan and the U.S.

With a focus on shared "Perspectives, Reflections and Visions for a Global Community," the conference, moderated by Mrs. Vivian Aiona, will feature a video message from Condoleezza Rice, U.S. Secretary of State. Speakers scheduled to attend include:

  • Kristie Kenney, U.S. ambassador to the Philippines;
  • Cathy Lanier, chief of police for the District of Columbia;
  • Moira Cameron, the first-ever female Yeoman Warder at the Tower of London;
  • Jayne Schmitt, vice-president and CFO, Customer Solutions Operating Group, BAE Systems;
  • Aduei Riak, a Sudanese genocide survivor and current paralegal at Boston's Ropes & Gray;
  • Alison Spencer, IBM's manager for Organizational Culture and Change based in Sydney, Australia; and
  • Jacey Eckhart, an author and humorist for military families.

The conference will also feature a panel discussion with international higher education leaders, including university presidents from Finland, New Zealand, Uganda, China, Japan and the United States. Click here to register and learn more.
