Kanu Hawai‘i asks for personal commitments for change

Kanu Hawai‘i is a new nonprofit that describes itself as a social movement that practices island-style activism – “changing ourselves first, then leading by example to transform Hawai‘i into a model of economic resilience, environmental sustainability and strong community. Kanu participated in the HANO Conference in May, supporting a call to action by HANO members to use the ideas presented at the conference to build public awareness and support of the nonprofit sector and their own organizations by telling compelling stories about how they contribute to the community.

Anyone who feels some connection to the Kanu vision and who is willing to make a change in their own life is invited to join the Kanu community. Here's how it works:

  1. I WILL Commit to personal actions that help you live the life you feel you ought to live and bring your own life closer in line with the Hawaii we all want to see. When that becomes a habit, make more commitments.
  2. WE WILL Commit to change as a group, a company, an organization, or an ohana and watch our impacts grow.
  3. WILL YOU? Organize with others, lead by example, and pursue change by asking businesses, government, and others to change with us

So far, 2,981 of us have made 16,008 personal commitments to improve our Hawai‘i.   Click here for an update and to find out more about Kanu.
