The Emerging Nonprofit Leader Award recognizes an emerging nonprofit leader in Hawaiʻi who exemplifies organizational and professional excellence, community spirit, innovation, personal integrity, and has made an impressive impact on our nonprofit industry. We are proud to present Lisa Kimura with this award.
Lisa Kimura is the executive director of Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies Coalition of Hawaii (HMHB). At HMHB, she has helped pass legislation, introduced new programs, implemented new fundraising strategies, and expanded Cribs for Kids, a safe sleep education program for parents, statewide to all islands. Lisa was appointed to the Governor's Early Learning Advisory Board and is a member of the Hawaii Maternal & Infant Health Collaborative, Women's Legislative Coalition, Fetal Alcohol Task Force, and Safe Sleep Hawaii.
The Community Collaborator Award honors a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in Hawaiʻi that has shown a commitment to working collaboratively with other organizations (nonprofit, for profit, or government) to scale, leverage synergies and efficiencies and create greater impact in the communities they serve. We are proud to present Hui Maka'ainana O Makana with this award.
Hui Maka'ainana O Makana was formed in 1998 by key members of the native community in Ha'ena. Hui Maka'ainana O Makana is dedicated to perpetuating and teaching the skills, knowledge, and practices of our kupuna through the interpretation, restoration, care, and protection of the natural and cultural resources that are located within the Ha'ena State Park. They have collaborated with many in their community including Ha'ena fishers and elders, local divers, kayak and scuba and businesses, state officials, scientists and resource managers, as well as other rural fishing communities to protect and steward this amazing resource.
Congratulations to Lisa Kimura and Hui Maka'ainana O Makana!
