We're Looking for a Few Good Executive Directors! 

The Weinberg Fellows Program is now recruiting for the 2017 class. Executive Directors of health and human-service nonprofits who meet the eligibility requirements listed below are encouraged to complete the application form.

The Opportunity

Would you like a chance to hone your skills, work more closely with other service providers, and carve out some time to consider management issues that keep getting pushed aside by a relentless workload? 

The Weinberg Fellows Program is a series of three multiple-day gatherings for Executive Directors of Hawaii nonprofit organizations. It features learning sessions that blend hands-on skills/experiences, practical information, inspirational speakers, and the chance to explore independent sector issues with peers who quickly become a support network of colleagues and friends. It could be the management enhancement program for you.

Your Board President and other key agency leaders are invited to join you for selected sessions as well. These side-by-side seminars are designed to provide you with opportunities to review key concepts, explore current factors affecting nonprofits, and develop a supportive climate for implementing learning and ideas back on the job.

Eligibility

Please ask yourself the following four questions to determine whether you are eligible to apply. If your answer to all four questions is "yes," we welcome your application.

(If you answer "no" to any of the questions, we appreciate and thank you for your interest, but you are not eligible for the Weinberg Fellows Program at this time.)

  1. Is your organization currently designated 501(c)(3) by the Internal Revenue Service?
  2. Are you the Executive Director of your nonprofit organization? (You may have another title, such as CEO, but you must be the top staff person, reporting to a Board of Directors.)
  3. Are the majority of those your organizations serves disadvantaged residents of Hawai'i? (Preference is given to agencies working in the Foundation's program priority areas, which are aging, basic human needs, self-sufficiency, poverty and hunger relief.)
  4. Are you able to fully participate in all of the sessions listed below?

Sessions*

Executive Directors will be required to attend all of the following, including some possible evening sessions:

  • Session 1: May 23-26
  • Session 2: July 18-21
  • Session 3: August 23-26

If you already know that you cannot attend sessions on any of these dates, please defer your application to a subsequent year. Attendance requirements are stringent and you cannot be certified as a Weinberg Fellow if you do not meet them, whatever the reason.

*All sessions will be held at the Hilton Waikiki Beach Hotel. Sessions begin at 9 a.m. on Day One and Day Four and at 8:30 a.m. on Day Two and Three. They will usually end by 5 p.m., though an evening activity occasionally may be scheduled. On the final day of each session, ending time is 4 p.m. Breakfast and lunch will be provided; dinner is on your own. We will make double occupancy lodging available for all Neighbor Islanders and Oahu residents with a 50-mile round trip commute or more. Private rooms are available at the Hilton at $150 single supplement per night.
