HIPA to honor five community leaders on Feb. 22

The Hawai‘i Institute of Public Affairs, the state’s first independent, non-partisan and non-government public policy institute, will honor five community leaders at its annual banquet on Feb. 22 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki:

  • Carol H. McNamee, founder of the Mothers Against Drunk Driving Hawai‘i Chapter
  • Tom Coffman, writer, historian and producer
  • Donald Horner, president and CEO of First Hawaiian Bank
  • Micah A. Kane, chair of the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands
  • Ted T. Tsukiyama, attorney, arbiter and mediator

Recent Hawai‘i nonprofit recognitions

Parents and Children Together won the Parent Friendly Business Award from the Commission on Fatherhood.

Debbie Shimizu, of the National Association of Social Workers-Hawaii Chapter and Sarah Casken of the Hawaii Foster Parent Association were named Hawaii's Outstanding Advocates for Children and Youth as part of  Hawaii’s Children and Youth Month, sponsored by the Hawaii State Legislature.
