The Hawai‘i People's Fund, a publicly supported community fund that provide grants to progressive grassroots social change organizations working in Hawai‘i and the Pacific, will honor Tomas Belsky and Imaikalani Kalahele, activists and artists, at its annual dinner, titled "Art and Social Change," that will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4 at Treetops Restaurant in Manoa Valley.
The artists work in a variety of media, including poetry, painting, design and more. The organizers note, "The struggle for justice is furthered by those artists who find their inspiration in social observation. Their creations comment on and reflect our realities while motivating individuals and movements for progressive social change."
Also honored at the event will be The Arts at Marks Garage for its support of radical artists and nurturing of new talents and voices for social change. "Marks is committed to exemplifying how culture and the arts can help transform lives and build community," they said.
The event will feature live music and entertainment, a buffet dinner and no-host bar. Cost is $40 per person; there is a sliding scale for low-income registrants from $20; tables of ten are available; and children under ten will be admitted free. Call (808) 845-4800 for more information.
