More than 100 have registered early
to attend 2007 HANO Conference

AS OF the March 30 early bird deadline, more than 100 Hawai‘i nonprofit leaders have already registered to attend the 2007 HANO Conference, “Moving Forward Together,” on Wednesday, May 9, at the Ko'olau Golf Club in Kaneohe, Oahu. The conference planning committee is expecting a turnout of between 200 and 250 at the first annual conference for HANO since the organization officially adopted its new name in January.

Organizers are planning an agenda that will be valuable to a wide range of nonprofit staff and volunteers, not just executive directors. They encourage board members, program staff and emerging leaders to attend as well as agency CEOs. Sessions will focus on topics such as developing a new generation of leadership, advocacy, organizational sustainability and putting technology to work.

In addition, a town hall meeting segment will focus on networking, brainstorming and organizing to advance the national nonprofit sector priorities: improving nonprofit organizational effectiveness, advocacy and grassroots community activities and building public awareness and support of the nonprofit sector.

John Flanagan, HANO’s president, plans to introduce several promising and valuable new member benefits at the conference and a vendor expo will allow attendees to meet and talk with local companies with products and services for the nonprofit community.

The Ko'olau Conference Center will provide an idyllic, retreat-like setting for the conference, with stunning views of the Pali and Kaneohe Bay. Ample free parking for more than 300 cars helps to make this venue an ideal alternative to typical, urban conference sites.

Neighbor island nonprofits can take advantage of free round-trip shuttle service from the Honolulu International Airport to the conference. In addition, a limited number of scholarships are available, one per organization, with preference given to neighbor island nonprofits and those with annual revenues of $250,000 or less.
