The Big Island's Kolaha Center in Kamuela has announced a delectable learning event, "Cool Farms, Hot Lunches," a visit to Kawanui Farm with owners Nancy Redfeather and Gerry Herbert from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 25.
Visitors will learn about home systems for every aspect of food production on this unique experience in self-sufficiency. They will also taste 12 varieties of coffee and in-season fruits and have lunch with Redfeather and Herbert.
Kawanui Farm is an organic 1.2-acre experimental/educational mini-farm in mauka Kona. Established in 2000, the farm’s vision is to be a model for Hawaii’s home producers, and an educational center for the production of fruits, nuts, berries, vegetables and more. Kohala Center designed "Cool Farms, Hot Lunches" as a way for participants to connect with one another, with cultural and scientific experts, and with Hawaii’s Island's natural, cultural and spiritual landscapes.
