It wasn’t a ground-up rebuild and there weren’t hundreds gathered to chant “move that bus,” but the main office at Camp Erdman in Mokuleia, which had become a dumping ground, universal meeting space and terribly inefficient workspace, recently got a face lift and office remodel by a team from the Hawaii Association of Professional Organizers, courtesy of their nonprofit makeover contest.
Before the makeover, camp staff removed clutter and found new homes for things that needed to be saved. The makeover crew taught the staff that "clutter is the result of decisions unmade." The saga of the makeover and photos can be found at the Star-Bulletin web site.
"It looks like a real office now," said Morgan Casement, the camp’s assistant conference director. "When people come in to make inquiries, they have a place to sit down." The staff is now looking at other areas that need organization, she said. "They gave us the first step. Now it's up to us to use the tips. It's my job to remind people about where things belong," she said. "When things are more organized, it makes things more positive."
