A number of nonprofit human service organizations in Hawaii are now accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA) or the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). Accreditation strengthens and improves administration, management and service delivery by implementing best practices and allows organizations to meet state purchase of service contract requirements. Regardless of why organizations decide to pursue accreditation, one thing is certain: Accreditation focuses on continuous performance quality improvement and outcomes. It positively impacts the health and wellbeing of our organizations and their clients.
In 2007, after careful consideration and research, COA scheduled its four-day training seminars in Las Vegas, Philadelphia, Boston, Orlando, Nashville, Richmond, Cincinnati, Atlanta, Cleveland, New York, Fort Lauderdale and Los Angeles.
COA also recently surveyed interest in bringing accreditation training to Hawai‘i. Thanks to the positive response, a generous grant from Consuelo Foundation, COA’s willingness to offer training at a reduced cost and HANO’s support, COA will bring its training program to Hawai‘i, Nov. 5 to 8 at the Card Room of the Pacific Club, 1451 Queen Emma St., Honolulu.
Attendees will realize both tremendous savings on transportation and lodging compared to sending staff to the mainland and – because of Consuelo Foundation’s grant and COA’s tuition reduction – a 50 percent savings on registration fees. The Hawai‘i sessions will include:
Organizations can send different individuals on different days to attend any or all of these sessions. They will receive useful manuals and materials, lunch and afternoon snacks. A continental breakfast and beverage service will be available at programs that begin before 10 a.m.
The trainer, Brenda Hill, MSW, has years of experience conducting COA trainings on diverse topics. She brings a teaching style that is consistently engaging, thought-provoking, easygoing, humorous and facilitative. Space is limited to 25 participants per day; register early – open seats will be offered to organizations in four western mainland states.
