The Queen's Medical Center observed its 150th anniversary on Friday, July 17, with a "Heritage Day Celebration" on the front lawn, at 1301 Punchbowl St. in Honolulu. Speakers at the opening ceremony included Art Ushijima, president and chief executive officer of The Queen's Health Systems, Gov. Linda Lingle and Mayor Mufi Hannemann.
An offering was made in honor of Queen Emma and King Kamehameha IV, founders of the medical center, and a 150th anniversary time capsule was unveiled. Festivities included entertainment by the Royal Hawaiian Band and Kaukahi, a Hawaiian crafts fair and cultural demonstrations.
