As we put together our workshop schedule for the first half of 2008, HANO is pleased to announce two worthwhile programs coming up in January and February:
Thursday, Jan. 24 on Oahu – There are valuable resources available to Hawai‘i nonprofits to build organizational capacity and the concept is familiar to many nonprofit managers. However, what it means and how to approach it in your organization is not always clear. Join us for this practical full-day workshop that will focus on identifying the strategic needs of your organization, best practices and ways to access resources to implement capacity-building projects.
Presenters include David Plettner, Mark Anderson and/or Karen Masaki, principals of The Cultural+Planning Group, a management consulting firm based in Honolulu and Los Angeles. David, Mark and Karen have worked with the Hawai‘i Community Foundation and mainland funders to create and improve capacity-building programs. They have also consulted with nonprofits in Hawai‘i and nationally in capacity building projects, including assessments and strategic planning.
Feb. 5-6 on Hawaii Island – Co-sponsored by HANO and Ka ‘Umeke Kā‘eo, in partnership with Kamehameha Schools, this two-day workshop is designed to increase the potential for collaborative decision making and problem solving. It provides participants with powerful facilitation tools and practice in using them. The workshop will focus on how to choose the process or processes that enable a successful meeting, the key roles played by a group facilitator and recorder and the steps beyond facilitation towards collaborative leadership.
Presenter is Donna Ching, PhD, an extension specialist in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at the University of Hawaii-Manoa since 1987. She has worked with hundreds of nonprofit, for-profit and community organizations delivering workshops on group process, leadership, facilitation and strategic planning. She has also facilitated many of these organizations in strategic planning and collaborative decision making.
In addition, with the support of the Bank of Hawai‘i Charitable Foundation, HANO plans a series of workshops statewide titled “Fiscal Accountability: Best Practices for Meeting Community and Donor Expectations.” Watch for announcements of when this workshop is available near you and for trainings on these topics, too:
