A national expert on enterprise development will share strategies for sustainability in the changing funding environment at the HANO annual meeting, 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Friday Dec. 5 at the Pacific Club, 1451 Queen Emma St., Honolulu. This event is sponsored by ING Direct and the Arc of Hilo.
Nonprofits interested in the new federal funding landscape for nonprofits under the Obama Administration -- HANO members and non-members alike -- are invited to attend to hear Irvin Henderson, principal of Henderson and Company, discuss the new paradigm and describe tools and techniques for navigating the increasingly competitive environment.

Henderson specializes in community development, education and training in finance, collaboration, project design and strategic planning. He has worked with nonprofits across the nation, including Hawaii, on affordable housing and commercial, industrial and enterprise development projects. "Irvin did some consulting work for the Arc of Hilo recently," says Mike Gleason, President and CEO of Arc of Hilo and HANO board member. "He is extremely knowledgeable about navigating the federal system to obtain funding."
In his training capacity, Henderson has worked with nonprofit executives, bankers, government officials and grassroots leaders throughout the U.S., including the Hawaii Alliance for Community-Based Economic Development, employing his background in financial planning and brokering securities with his experience in grassroots empowerment.
In addition, Lisa Maruyama, HANO's new President and CEO, will share her vision for HANO going forward and there will be a short business meeting to elect new members to the HANO Board. The meeting will include a breakfast buffet. Cost is $25 per person for HANO members; $35 per person for non-members. Deadline to register was Nov. 28; however, a few seats are left.
