HSTV video on HIV for HYSN wins multiple awards

Hawaii Student Television, a HANO supporting member, has won three industry awards for "You Cannot Get HIV Ladatt!," an HIV-prevention video HSTV produced for Hawaii Youth Services Network featuring local youth and personalities Kutmaster Spaz and Augie T.

HYSN received the 2008 Horizon Award for Excellence in Health Education from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control for the production, while HSTV won this recognition:

  • 2008 International MarCom Awards Platinum Award for outstanding creative achievement by marketing and communication professionals, administered and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals.
  • 2008 Aegis Finalist. Aegis is judged by peer producers, directors, cameramen, editors, and other professionals who work in the video/film industry. Other finalists included Booz Allen & Hamilton, Department of Veterans Affairs, National Restaurant Association and other professionals.
  • 38th Creativity Annual Award which received a record 2,800 entries from over 44 countries and 45 U.S. states.

"These awards were given on a industry level, not on a student award level.  It is important for the community to know that even though HSTV was presented with the awards, Hawaii students and mentors that participated in the productions competed among some of the world's best video and television professionals," said Robert Olague, HSTV president and executive producer.
