The top ten stores in the annual charity fundraising competition for the 195-store Macy’s West region were all from Hawaii and Guam, the Pacific Business News reported on Jan. 22. Stores in the region raised $2 million in the fourth quarter 2006 campaign, of which Hawai‘i and Guam stores chipped in $375,000, or 5.3 percent – more than 10 times the average.
The "Thanks for Sharing" campaign demonstrated the Hawaii and Guam “customers' incredible aloha spirit and generosity,” said Deena Nichols, senior vice president in charge of the Hawaii region. Macy’s ranked the participating stores by the number of enrollments as a percentage of the store’s sales to level the playing field for smaller locations.

Shoppers were invited to earn 10 percent rewards on purchases made with a Macy's card after enrolling for $25. Macy's then donated $10 for each enrollment to four nonprofits: the Boys and Girls Club, Hawaii Foodbank, Aloha United Way and the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women Campaign.
