Honolulu Symphony exceeds annual goal by 240%

According to the Jan. 10 Pacific Business News, the Honolulu Symphony has received 825 donations amounting to more than $450,000 over the past few weeks for its annual fund campaign, exceeding its goal of $125,000. Development director Keith Kadoyama said approximately 35 percent of recent donations were either from new contributors or from patrons who had not made a gift in several years.

Donations poured in after the Symphony announced in early December that it would be unable to meet its payroll.  With the flood of donations, the organization was able to pay half what it owed musicians and staff during December, to continue its concert schedule and move forward with education and outreach, officials said.
