National nonprofit movement names state coordinators

On Jan. 14, the National Council of Nonprofit Associations, the convening organization for the Nonprofit Congress, announced selection of 36 outstanding state-based leadership organizations to serve as State Coordinators for the Nonprofit Congress, including the Hawai‘i Alliance of Nonprofit Organizations.

State Coordinators will lead efforts connecting local and state activities with the national nonprofit movement and the Nonprofit Congress, which links nonprofit organizations nationwide to work collectively toward positive change in communities across the country.

In 2006, nonprofits identified key priorities at the first convening of the Nonprofit Congress. Nonprofits are now working on the established priorities to operate more effectively, prepare the next generation of nonprofit leaders, advocate for the sector to candidates for office and elected officials, and increase public understanding of the work done by nonprofits.

State Coordinators will play a pivotal role in coordinating these efforts at the state level, continuing to bring nonprofits together in local Town Hall meetings, and carrying that message to a national gathering in Washington, on June 1 to 4.

“The action is at the local and state level. Having State Coordinators involved by connecting state level activities to a broader national movement has unified the sector as a powerful and influential voice throughout our country,” said Audrey R. Alvarado, Ph.D., executive director of NCNA. Click here for detailed information on NCNA and the Nonprofit State Coordinators.
