The Hawaii Department of the Attorney General provides Uniform Crime Reports online, which some nonprofit s might find useful to document the need for programs, to make a case for support in grant proposals or as indicators of progress toward outcomes.
In December, the AG reported that Hawaii's index crime rate decreased in 2007, down 3.2 percent from the rate reported for 2006. Index crimes include murder, forcible rape, aggravated assault, robbery, burglary, motor vehicle theft, larceny-theft and arson.
A total of 56,411 index crimes were reported statewide in 2007 – a rate of 4,395 offenses per 100,000 residents. The violent index crime rate decreased 2.5 percent in 2007, while property index crimes decreased 3.2 percent. This reflects a decrease in violent crime by 17.8 percent and property crime by 19.2 percent from rates reported a decade earlier, in 1998.
