The 2011 application for the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Young Scholars Program, one of the most generous awards for outstanding seventh-grade students, is now open. Students may print a paper application or apply online at http://www.jkcf.org/scholarships/young-scholars-program/how-to-apply/.
Applications are due by April 25. Please read below for additional information, including details about an optional online question and answer session for interested applicants. Anyone with questions should contact Lionel Foster at (410) 735-6270 or jkcinfo@jhu.edu.
Each year, the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Young Scholars Program honors 50 to 75 seventh-graders who demonstrate outstanding academic ability, accomplishments outside of the classroom and significant financial need. The award is competitive, but those selected receive financial support for educational and extracurricular activities, as well as one-on-one help applying to high schools, colleges, summer programs, and more.
A live information session providing information about the application process will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17. Anyone with a computer and a phone will be able to listen in and ask questions. Register for the session of your choice at http://cty.jhu.edu/ts/webinars.html.
Who should participate in these sessions? Parents, students, educators, coaches, youth leaders--anyone interested in applying for the award or who might help an eligible student apply.
