Born Learning connects with parents and caregivers
A child’s early years matter for success in life and school readiness, yet many parents discount their roles in preparing children for school. They don’t know how to foster a child’s early learning and think they don’t have time to do what’s needed.
Born Learning is a nationwide public engagement campaign to enhance children’s learning experiences being promoted locally by Aloha United Way. It seeks to connect with parents, grandparents and other caregivers to share easy, fun ideas that foster early learning in young children. Through public service announcements, educational materials, a web site and other means the Born Learning campaign will help parents, caregivers and communities take action to provide quality early learning opportunities.
To get the word out to parents and caregivers, AUW will provide at no charge:
- Parenting and child development information that translates cutting-edge research into easy-to-do actions, which is available in different formats for the web, desktop printing and commercial printing.
- “KidBasics” and “Parent Tools,” two illustrated booklets with tips and answers on how to care for children and great ideas to turn daily routine into fun learning moments for both adult and child.
- “Your Child@,” a two-page fact sheet on key things to be aware of at each stage of development, from birth through five years.
- Key messages posters highlighting five essential things parents can do to foster their child’s development.
- Lunch ‘n Learn presentations on early learning and customized presentations on any aspect of child development and parenting conducted by local experts.
Electronic tools are available to make it easy to spread the word about Born Learning to your personal or professional network:
- A customizable e–mail message to let employees know the importance of parents as a child’s first teachers with a link to the national web site where parents can sign up for a monthly electronic newsletter, “Bits of Understanding.”
- Web banners that link to the Born Learning site, which can be displayed on your company’s web site.
- TV public service announcements that illustrate “learning moments” in a sweet, humorous way that can be played back on continuous looping video systems
- Print ads to place in your company newsletter or other publication, to make readers aware of engaging their young children in everyday learning moments.
