Akamai Program seeks youth agency partners

The Hawai‘i National Guard recently assumed responsibility for the Honolulu Police Department’s Akamai Program, which provides training for first-time youth offenders and their parents to redirect the youth into more positive lifestyles. Under HPD’s leadership, the program has claimed an 85 percent success rate.

The National Guard plans at least two training sessions each month, which run six hours over two evenings. The Guard is interested in partnering with youth-oriented agencies, which would become part of this program and participate in a “resource fair” held on the second evening of each training class. Agencies participating in the fair would offer programs to the youth and parents that build on their Akamai Program experiences and provide safe and nurturing follow-on activities.

If your agency has programs that would compliment the National Guard’s Akamai Program and you are interested in participating in the resource fairs, contact Tamah-Lani Noh of the National Guard’s Counter-Drug Program at (808) 672-1520.
