Adults in the second half of life are leading a new wave of social innovation, says Civic Ventures, sponsor of the Purpose Prize. Social entrepreneurs like Gary Maxworthy, a VISTA volunteer who used his years of experience in food distribution to bring over 30 tons of fresh produce to California's food banks and Wilson Goode, former mayor of Philadelphia who established a faith-based mentoring program to help the children of incarcerated parents. Both have been honored with the Purpose Prize.
Prize provides five $100,000 and ten $10,000 awards to U.S. residents over 60 who are creating innovation solutions to address society’s most pressing problems – domestically and abroad. Past winners are making lasting changes in the areas of education, foster care, hospital safety, newborn care and search-and-rescue efforts.
Click here before March 1 to nominate social entrepreneurs over 60 who are changing the world. Self-nominations are encouraged and accepted.
