Forbes: Honolulu ranks 54th of 100 affordable cities

Honolulu ranks near the middle when it comes to affordable cities with a stable job market and good housing, according to a Nov. 30 report by Forbes.com. Forbes puts Honolulu at No. 54 out of 100 large U.S. metro areas on a list of the “Best Bang for the Buck Cities.” The survey looked at factors like commute times, home vacancies, housing affordability, real estate taxes, unemployment and jobs forecast.

Honolulu ranked 100th for housing affordability, 52nd for travel time, 28th for real estate taxes, 10th for unemployment, 36th for vacancies, 97th for its future job outlook, 68th for future home prices and 17th for foreclosures.

Omaha-Council Bluffs, Iowa; Little Rock, Ark; and Jackson, Miss, topped the “Best Bang for the Buck” list. The lowest-ranked communities on the list included the New York-Northern New Jersey-Long Island metro area (No. 98), Miami (No. 99) and Los Angeles (No. 100).
