People’s Fund announces grants to community groups
Based on its tagline, “Change, not Charity,” the Hawaii People’s Fund focuses its grant making on progressive social change and community organizing for justice. Since 1972, Hawaii People’s Fund has supported grassroots, community-based groups. Individual donations are redistributed through a democratic, activist-empowered grant-making program. Added grant funds come from the Hawaii Community Foundation. HPF’s fall 2009 grant awards will support community action such as:
- A public mural project that links Kalihi residents with their community resources.
- A public recycling system that maximizes the whole 5¢ of HI-5 for those who need it most.
- A spring & summer youth program for environmental justice and human rights.
