Critical Issues for Nonprofits: The Legal & Financial Environment is a half-day workshop from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 19 at the Maui Economic Opportunity Family Center, 99 Mahalani St., Wailuku, Maui. It will highlight recent changes in the national and local legal environment that will affect Hawai`i nonprofits, such as risk management and directors and officers insurance, the IRS Form 990, Sarbanes-Oxley and the Hawai`i Nonprofit Corporations Act.

This workshop provides board members, executive directors, financial managers and bookkeepers guidelines for developing your organization's policies and procedures, improving oversight and establishing critical internal controls.  Presenters are Allen Arakaki, CPA, and attorney Brian Ezuka. Board Alive!: Best Practices for Nonprofit Board Governance is a half-day workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 2 at the PATCH Training Facility, 650 Iwilei Road, Ste. 265, Honolulu. This program will focus on the critical elements and best practices in board governance that help assure a high-performance board.
