UH series includes lecture on foundation governance

Mary Bitterman, president of the Bernard Osher Foundation and lead director of the Bank of Hawaii will speak on “Governance of Charitable Foundations” as part of the Will Weinstein Summer Guest Speaker Series presented by the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa Shidler College of Business and the William S. Richardson School of Law from 6 to 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17 at the William S. Richardson School of Law, Classroom 2.

The lectures are free of charge and seating is limited. Please RSVP acceptances only to (808) 956-6902 or e-mail to busevent@hawaii.edu. Parking is available at the lower campus structure for $3 after 4 p.m. Other lectures in the series include:

  • Thursday, July 12 – Tina Siefkes “An insider’s view of the fashion industry: Age, race, appearance and gender bias in fashion marketing and advertising.” Siefkes has had a very successful modeling career. Upon turning 40, she is forced to deal with many of the issues that face all women as they mature. In this candid discussion, she talks openly about her interactions in the fashion world, the expectations and discriminations she encounters and offers her astute observations on the state of today’s fashion industry. In addition to her modeling career, Tina teaches a class at San Francisco City College.
  • Thursday, July 19 – “Sustainable Development,” presented by Samantha Campbell, Program Officer, The Keith Campbell Foundation for the Environment; Jack Lemley, Director and President, Lemley International; and Murray Silverman, Professor of Strategic Management, College of Business, San Francisco State University.
  • Thursday, July 26 – "Ivory-Tower Ethics: A Conversation with Gaston Caperton." Caperton is former governor of West Virginia and president of the College Board.
