On July 15, representatives from National Council of Nonprofits member state associations will visit Members of Congress to advocate for the nonprofit sector. In NCN’s second annual Lobby Day, the council will represent the nonprofit sector as a unified force, driven by mission and values, that offers hope and opportunities for millions of Americans, both as givers and receivers, and that needs to be a respected and supported partner in the work of this country.
In 2008, former HANO CEO John Flanagan and board member Phil Kinnicutt participated in NCN's first Lobby Day, meeting with Representatives Neil Abercrombie and Mazie Hirono to discuss legislation affecting nonprofits, such as the Nonprofit Capacity Building Initiative.
Through meetings with Senators and Representatives, NCN members will raise awareness of the nonprofit sector as a valuable partner and we seek the support of elected officials for issues on our policy agenda. Nonprofit organizations interested in participating in Lobby Day should contact Lisa Maruyama at the Hawaii Alliance of Nonprofit Organizations, lmaruyama@hano-hawaii.org or (808) 529-0466.
