Five nonprofit organizations will be recognized for their leadership by Pacific Business News, the Cades Schutte law firm and the Cades Foundation again at the Business Leadership Hawaii event in November.
Nonprofits have been a part of the Business Leadership Hawaii program for the past seven years, “because of the great work being done by nonprofits in Hawaii and how effectively and efficiently so many of them operate with limited financial resources,” said Larry Fuller, PBN publisher,
Event sponsor Cades Schutte will match the winner's prize money through the Cades Foundation. The winning organization will receive $10,000 and each of the four finalists will be given $1,000. The competition for the Cades Schutte-Cades Foundation Nonprofit Leadership Award is open to any 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
Nominations will be accepted until Aug. 21. Judging criteria emphasize what the nonprofit nominee does differently in addressing the unique needs of its organization. This year, nonprofits are also asked how they have been impacted and how they have responded to the current economic environment.
Nomination letters are limited to three pages and two letters of support also are needed. Financial information is requested, but that’s not a determining factor in the award as long as viability is demonstrated.
There will be five finalists for the Nonprofit Leadership Award: three organizations whose mission involves human services and two others that work in non-human-service areas. The winner will be chosen by the judges without regard to purpose or mission. The Hawaii Foodbank was last year’s winner and finalists were Hale Na‘au Pono, Hospice Hawaii, Mental Health Kokua and River of Life Mission.
PBN does not reveal the names of nominators, not even to judges, and most of the entries in the nonprofit leadership category have been self-nominations. Only the names of finalists are released. This year’s awards dinner will be held in the at the Sheraton Waikiki on Thursday, Nov. 12.
