Entrepreneurs and CCH launch school supplies drive

The Entrepreneurs Foundation of Hawaii is again partnering with Catholic Charities Hawaii to collect backpacks and school supplies for disadvantaged children. The cost of school supplies can be a major barrier to the financial well-being of a young family.  Children in these families face many challenges in school. Help give these children a good start in the 2010-2011 school year by sending them back to school with the backpacks and supplies they need to succeed.

Supplies will be collected for 226 disadvantaged children in the following programs:

> Comprehensive Counseling & Support Services – provides counseling, crisis intervention, and other services to families with a history of child abuse and neglect

> Enhanced Healthy Start – provides home visiting and support services through a team approach that works with biological families as well as foster parents to promote and enhance healthy child development, increase healthy family functioning, and decrease the risk factors for child abuse and neglect

> Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children – monitors and ensures safe and stable placement of children in foster or relative care across state lines

> Housing Placement Program – provides one-time emergency financial assistance for families at risk of homelessness

> Case Management – provides advocacy, case management, counseling, and assessment of needs for low-income families

This year additional supplies will be collected for 50 underserved children in the Learning for a Lifetime program at Palama Settlement.  Learning for a Lifetime provides homework help and other educational activities for children who have nowhere else to go after school.
