Sound financial management and planning are crucial for nonprofits to deliver cost-effective services. The presenter, Allen M. Arakaki, CPA, has geared this hands-on workshop, “Budgeting Techniques for Nonprofits: A Hands-on Training,” to the needs of smaller nonprofit organizations that do not have a professional budget analyst.
This seminar is an introduction to budget preparation that will build the financial capacity and literacy of board members, staff and executive directors alike. This workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, June 22, at the Honolulu Community College's Pacific Center for Advanced Technology Training, where each participant will be able to use a computer to complete a sample budget using Microsoft Excel.

“Critical Issues for Nonprofits: The Legal & Financial Environment” is a half-day workshop that highlights recent changes in the national and local legal environment that will affect Hawai`i nonprofits, such as risk management and directors and officers insurance, the IRS Form 990, Sarbanes-Oxley and the Hawai`i Nonprofit Corporations Act.
