Aloha United Way notified its partner agencies on June 20 that it has postponed decision making on its new community inititiatives and fund allocation until the Sept. 28 AUW board of directors meeting.
"Over the past six months, in our conversations about the AUW transition to community impact, we have been predicting that our Board of Directors would review the proposals and make their decisions in mid-July, 2007," said Norm Baker, AUW vice president for Community Building. "Unfortunately, circumstances have led us to delay the decision making."
According to Baker, a group of CEOs with whom AUW has been discussing the changes and the Business Roundtable Executive Committee have requested meetings. The meetings won't be complete until Aug. 20. "Because these groups are such an important constituency," Baker said, "we rescheduled our decision making so that we can have the benefit of this last input."
An opinion survey sponsored by First Hawaiian Bank in March found widespread dissatisfaction with the proposals among partner agencies. A public opinion survey commissioned by AUW, on the other hand, found public support for the proposals.
