
Despite economic gloom, worker confidence is up
The latest Spherion Employee Confidence Index issued on May 13 showed U.S. worker confidence in the workplace increased four percentage points to 45.4 percent in April. The Spherion report measures worker confidence in employment and the economic environment. It also found:
- Roughly 16 percent of workers believe the economy is getting stronger, 10 percentage points greater than March. However, 46 percent of workers still believe the economy is getting weaker.
- Sixty five percent of U.S. adult workers feel confident in the future of their employer, which is a one percentage point decrease from March.
- Nearly 70 percent of workers say it is unlikely they will lose their jobs in the next year, up two percentage points from March.
- Of the workers earning $50,000 per year, 68 percent are confident in the future of their current employer, compared to 54 percent of those earning less than $35,000.
