Envision Hawaii to present June 19 mini-conference

Envision Hawaii will host its first mini-conference, “Creating Connections for Change: Mastering Effective Communication Techniques,” which will feature workshops on storytelling, social media and media relations, on Saturday, June 19 at ING Direct Cafe from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Session topics and presenters include:

  • Mastering the Art of Storytelling, by Pono Shim, president and CEO of Enterprise Honolulu, a gifted storyteller who credits his business acumen and sound value system to growing up in Hawaii and Hawaiian thought.  Shim believes Hawaii has all of the resources to compete in today’s fast-paced world, without losing the value and integrity of the Aloha Spirit.
  • Mastering “New” Social Media Networks, by L.P. “Neenz” Faleafine, chief evangelist for Alltop, a leading news-aggregation site, founder of Pono Media, a Hawaii based media-marketing company, and executive editor of Hawaii Traditions, an online magazine. A contributing blogger for the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau and the Honolulu Advertiser’s Metromix blog, Neenz recently joined the Neil Abercrombie for Governor campaign as social media director.
  • Mastering Traditional Media, with Christina Kemmer, president of Communications Pacific, who created a new practice, community building, designed to assist clients whose projects lie at the grass roots, the point where government, community, culture, environment and business need to come together; Garrett Kamemoto, account supervisor at Communications Pacific and former assignment editor at KHNL and political reporter at KGMB; and John Lewis, account supervisor at Communications Pacific, who spent 21 years with CNN as Tokyo bureau chief and founder of bureaus in Seoul, Beijing, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Bangkok, and New Delhi.

Envision Hawaii’s mission is to bring together, support, and increase the agency of young public servants and social entrepreneurs in Hawaii.  The annual conference is the organization’s largest event, providing hundreds of young professionals from diverse backgrounds with resources for community involvement, professional development, and networking.

Registration and continental breakfast begin at 8:30 a.m.  Registration fees are $15 by June 11 or $20 after June 11. There will be no walk-in registration. For more information and to register, visit www.envisionhawaii.org or email info@envisionhawaii.org.
