‘Charting Impact’ communicates what really matters

From Independent Sector

Your organization is committed to making the greatest possible difference. Sharpening your approaches and telling the story of your progress in an accessible, concise way are key elements of your success.

Charting Impact offers a shared, streamlined format to help you consider and communicate what really matters: results.

This new framework provides a clear, consistent way for organizations of all types, sizes, and missions to convey how they advance the common good. At its center are five simple yet powerful questions that encourage strategic thinking about how you will achieve your goals. Answering them creates a report that lets you share concise, detailed information about your plans and progress with key stakeholders, including the public.

Join Independent Sector in launching this exciting effort by completing your own Charting Impact Report. Charting Impact helps your organization, your supporters, and the nonprofit community collectively better serve people across the country and around the world.  Your participation can:

Encourage people to invest their money, time, and attention in effective organizations.

  • Highlight the difference your organization makes.
  • Position your organization to work with and learn from others.
  • Sharpen your approaches to making a difference.

Charting Impact was developed, tested, and refined by nearly 200 nonprofit and foundation leaders across the country, including United Way Worldwide, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, Public Allies, Save the Children US, OneStar Foundation, Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation, and Volunteer Fairfax. This sector-wide initiative is a strategic collaboration of Independent Sector and our members, BBB Wise Giving Alliance and GuideStar USA and has been generously supported by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.
