Annual certification of charitable gift annuities due March 15

HUGH JONES, supervising deputy attorney general, writes: “I just wanted to drop you a line and remind HANO members that issue charitable gift annuities that under Hawaii law, their annual certification form (click the link to download a copy) is due March 15th.  If they fail to certify compliance, their products become regulated life insurance products."

Jones said his office receives 20 to 30 certification forms each year. Charitable gift annuity qualifications were made more liberal in recent years, however, so smaller nonprofits can use this donation option. For more information, see the AG’s website or call Jones at (808) 586-1473.
