Sustain Hawaii becomes Walk Story, a chapter of BALLE

The Hawaii nonprofit group Sustain Hawaii has become the Hawaii chapter of BALLE, the Business Alliance for Local Living Economies. The new chapter, called Walk Story, will be launching several new programs: sustainable agriculture, clean energy, transparent and participatory policy, buy local campaigns and, says Kevin Vaccarello, “some cool new thoughts on old financial/economic models and a bunch more crazy, nerdy, healthy, good fun.”

The network will provide “some cool, enabling tools and to help connect those of us interested in and/or actively improving our islands' communities,” Vaccarello said. “Lots of us are playing our part, but we often get caught up in our own little world and don’t even realize there are lots of other individuals and groups we might be able to collaborate with to really get things cookin’ and have some seriously good fun! Let’s break down the silos and talk story with each other so we can share the lessons we’ve all learned.”

The group’s goal is enduring self-reliance, which it hopes to realize goals sooner by helping people make or save money and time while improving ecological and socio-cultural conditions. “The more we share, the better we’ll be able to see how and where our efforts are best directed to achieve our common goals. An interesting thing about sharing is that it actually creates abundance. Let’s share enough so there’s plenty for us all,” Vaccarello said.
