The Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement’s Homestead Energy Program provides grants and loans of up to $6,500 to homeowners on Hawaiian Home Lands to install solar water heating systems. The application process is easy, quick and has no income limitations, although grants are available subject to household size and income.
HEP loans have average monthly payments of $72. For more information or to apply, contact Brett Nakoa, CNHA Loan Fund Officer at info@hawaiiancouncil.org or (808) 596-8155. In 2010, 125 families applied for HEP funds and to install solar water systems.
The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands contracted with CNHA to deliver affordable housing and retrofit programs to homestead homeowners. The U.S. Department of Energy through DBEDT awarded grant funding for renewable energy services.
