The Hawaii Planned Giving Council and Aloha Chapter of Association for Fundraising Professionals will present "Bequests from A to Z,” a workshop by Karen Gallardo, senior director of gift planning and major gifts for the AARP Foundation, and Beth McNally, estate administrator of The Nature Conservancy, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, at the Hawaii Theatre Center, Weyand Room, 1130 Bethel St., Honolulu.
Bequests are among the most meaningful gifts for both a donor and a nonprofit organization. They can be a major gift income stream that secures an organization’s future. This in-depth seminar will help charities to reach out to donors, discuss their legacy and establish or fine tune a program to successfully realize their goals.
Karen Gallardo will discuss marketing, cultivating and soliciting bequests, and stewarding donors who have expressed their bequest intentions and encouraging other donors to reveal their plans to your oganization.
Beth McNally will present a guide to handling bequests and ensure your organization has a process to settle a bequest and not leave dollars on the table, including: what to ask for and when; collecting IRAs, life insurance and POD accounts; what to do if your request is ignored; how to spot accounting and tax problems; and other contingencies.
The program is designed for development directors, executive directors and board development volunteers.
