Photo Festival offers discount for HANO members

The inaugural Maui Photo Festival & Workshops will bring world-class pro photographers to one of the world's most photogenic destinations: Maui. The festival will be held Sept. 16 to 20 at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa at Kaanapali.

HANO members can take advantage of a special discount: $200 off the $695 full conference price. The discount is limited to the first 50 people who register with coupon code FFCJR3M. The offer expires on May 15. If you are uncertain of your membership status, contact Sally Ley at HANO, (808) 529-0466 or sley@hano-hawaii.org.

The festival will include classroom sessions, location shoots, real-world assignments and hands-on photo excursions led by professional photographers. Organizers plan a series of event-long photo competitions for both amateurs and pros. Each evening, attendees will view their images on an outdoor big screen on Kaanapali Beach; hear the stories of presenting photographers; learn the latest digital darkroom techniques from the sponsors; and check out competition entries shot that day.

If you have any questions about the event, contact Barbara Santos, (925) 895-5841, or Terrie Eliker, (808) 283-8438, or click here to visit the festival website for more details, including an updated list of presenters. The Hyatt Regency Maui is offering special Maui Photo Festival room rate.

Presenters already signed up include Canon Explorers of Light Jack Reznicki, Rick Sammon and Eddie Tapp; former aerial combat photographers Stacy Pearsall and Andy Dunaway; award-winning portrait photographer Judy Host; Senior Creative Director at Adobe Systems Incorporated Russell Preston Brown and Adobe Senior Digital Imaging Evangelist Julianne Kost; international fine art photographer and founder of the Pacific Center of Photography, Michael Gilbert; Maui fine art photographer Randy Jay Braun; advertising, fashion and architectural photographer Lou Freeman; commercial, editorial and fine art photographer Tony Novak-Clifford; celebrity portrait photographer David Rose; Waimea Bay shorebreak surfing pioneer and photographer Clark Little; and international underwater photographer David Fleetham of Hawaii.

Attendance is limited to 350 photographers. The four-day festival registration fee includes an opening reception with pupu and no-host cocktails; three days of morning keynotes, classroom sessions and extended afternoon sessions; three evenings at the outdoor Paradise Cinema on Kaanapali Beach and a Sunday wrap-up session. Attendees can also choose from a list of optional golden-hour and afternoon excursions.
