Workshop to help nonprofits thrive, not just survive

The current economy has placed a lot of stress on nonprofits. “Those that will thrive, not just survive, in the next 10 years will be the ones who truly know who they are, who they serve and where they want to go. They will chart their course with integrity and intentionality,” says Bill Coy, one of the presenters at upcoming workshop on strategic restructuring and partnering.

This workshop, cosponsored by La Piana Consulting and the Hawaii Alliance of Nonprofit Organizations, will present the various partnership options available to nonprofit organizations, including joint programs, administrative consolidation, management service organizations, parent-subsidiary relationships and mergers. It will be from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday, May 8, at the Koolau Golf Club, 45-550 Kionaole Rd., Kaneohe. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m.

“Leadership in difficult times is the art of helping others to see reality, and then working with them to overcome it,” says David La Piana, workshop co-presenter. He and Coy will present the findings of the largest study on mergers and alliances in the U.S., explore the benefits and challenges of restructuring and the process of assessment, negotiation and implementation/integration.

In addition to the presentation and Q & A session, there will be time for small group discussions for participants to consider how strategic restructuring might be considered to help them within the context of their immediate and potential future environment.

The workshop agenda includes:

  • The Economic Context - Motivators and Drivers
  • Overview of Strategic Restructuring
  • The Strategic Restructuring Process
  • Issues to be Determined in Negotiations
  • Due Diligence and Financial Analysis
