Hawaii Meth Project publishes benchmark study

The Hawaii Meth Project was launched statewide in June 2009 and immediately initiated a community outreach and education effort, attending summer and fall county fairs, holding volunteer meetings and  meeting with community organizations and prevention and treatment partners. In August, it began school outreach with the opening of the school year.

As part of its launch, the project published the results of a benchmark 2009 Hawaii Meth Use & Attitudes Survey, which produced alarming findings about teen meth attitudes and behaviors. Click here to view the results.

The project is now conducting a 2010 Hawaii Meth Use & Attitudes Survey and will publish those results in June. The annual survey data helps measure the impact of the organization’s public service messaging campaign and the progress of its community outreach and education effort.

Since last June, the meth project has made presentations to more than 4,000 students in health, peer education, journalism and advisory classes, and at public and private school assemblies at more than 30 schools statewide, distributing more than 38,000 ‘Not Even Once’ wristbands, 4,000 posters and hundreds of ‘Not Even Once’ t-shirts to students, teachers and the community.
