Recovery Act added 11,000 jobs in Hawaii in first quarter

According to a new White House report by the Council of Economic Advisors, Hawaii added an estimated 11,000 jobs in the first quarter of 2010 as a result of the federal stimulus bill, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which was passed in response to the national economic recession and free-falling job numbers.

The latest study follows an earlier report that showed the economic stimulus initiative created between 2.2 million and 2.8 million jobs nationwide in the same period. California posted the greatest increases, adding roughly 340,000 jobs, while Wyoming had the least impact, adding just 5,000 jobs, the report said.

“We’re not only providing needed relief and spurring job creation now, but laying a new foundation for economic growth that will create jobs for a long time to come," Vice President Joe Biden said in a prepared statement.
