Kahului Rotary to honor an outstanding nonprofit volunteer

The Rotary Club of Kahului is calling for nominations for the 2011 Michael H. Lyons II Palaka Award, recognizing outstanding long-term volunteer leadership service as a board or committee member for a Maui County nonprofit.

Nominations can be made online at www.kahuluirotary.com from May 1-15. Anyone may nominate candidates. The winner, finalists and the organizations they serve will be recognized at a special luncheon and fundraiser on Friday, June 24 at the King Kamehameha Golf Club.  Sponsors and organizations will have the opportunity to set up a display table showcasing the organization at the event, as well.

The winning organization will get to display the perpetual award for one year, while the 2011 Palaka Award winner will receive a hand-carved award in the shape of Mike Lyons's signature Palaka shirt.
