Honolulu seeks proposals for emergency shelter grants

Wednesday, Nov. 21 – The City and County of Honolulu's Department of Community Services has issued a request for proposals from nonprofit developers, service providers and other interested parties for an emergency shelter grants program, which will provide $800,000 in funding to qualified agencies. The ESG program is authorized under Title IV of the federal McKinley-Vento Homeless Assistance Act.

Grants may be for two years with the second year contingent on appropriation of funds and satisfactory performance and are available for:

  • Providing essential services to homeless
  • Operation of emergency shelters or transitional housing
  • Homelessness prevention
  • Renovation, major rehabilitation or convertsion of buildingsfor use as emergency shelters or transitional housing

Nonprofits may receive a copy of the RFP in PDF format via email by sending a request to Stephanie On, son@honolulu.gov or by picking up a copy at the Departemtn of Community Services, 715 S. King St., Suite 311, Honolulu. Deadline for proposals is 4 p.m., Friday, Dec. 21.
