Foundation challenges AUW to raise $250K match

Aloha United Way is looking for individual donors willing to give $500 or more to its 2008 campaign to participate in a $250,000 Atherton Family Foundation Challenge Matching Grant. This award will provide one dollar for every dollar pledged to Aloha United Way. To qualify for the match, donors must pledge at least $500.

Both new donors, who have never given to AUW. and former donors, who did not give in 2007, will see their donations of $500 or more matched in that amount -- for example, a $500 donation would be matched dollar for dollar to provide a $1,000 gift.

Continuing donors who gave $500 or more to AUW in 2007 will also see each additional dollar pledged in 2008 matched dollar for dollar. For example, if someone donated $700 in 2007 and $850 in 2008, Atherton would match the additional $150 for a total of $1,000.

For every dollar contributed by a new or former donor and every additional dollar contributed by a continuing donor, the Atherton Family Foundation will contribute a dollar, up to a maximum of $2,500 per donor and a total of $250,000.

Participating donors will have the matching dollars included in their gifts for recognition purposes. For example, donors who reach the $1,000 level would become members of the Kukui Circle and would be listed in the AUW's Leaders in Giving newsletter for 2008.
