Discuss the state of the nonprofit sector, national and local

The Hawaii Alliance of Nonprofit Organization will hold its 2010 Annual Meeting luncheon at the first annual Conference of Nonprofit Communities of Hawaii on Nov. 9 from 12 to 1:15 p.m. at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel.

The Annual meeting will be followed by a pivotal discussion about framing the Hawaii nonprofit sector agenda from 1:30 - 2:45 p.m. Come and be part of this discussion about the critical issues that should make up the Hawaii nonprofit sector agenda to be shared with the Governor, along with other policy makers, business and the media.

David Thompson, vice president of Public Policy for the National Council of Nonprofits, HANO’s national affiliate, and Lisa Maruyama, HANO president and CEO, will lead a discussion of policy agendas at the federal, state and county levels. Input from a broad range of sub-sectors – such as arts and culture, education, health and human services, conservation and other areas – is key to this conversation. Therefore, participants from all types of nonprofit are encouraged to come and share their perspectives.

“By the time this session occurs, Hawaii's new governor will have been elected and will already be in the process of assessing the pressing needs of our state and forming a new administration,” said Maruyama. “This timing presents a tremendous opportunity for Hawaii's nonprofit sector to get on the radar of one of our most important government partners.”

You must be registered for the entire conference to attend this afternoon breakout session. The meeting also will include a summary of 2010 HANO highlights by Maruyama and a business meeting led by Laura Robertson, HANO Board chair, honoring outgoing HANO board members and electing and introducing new HANO board members.

HANO's Annual Meeting is part of the Nov. 9-10 conference package. Indicate on your conference registration that you are planning to attend the HANO Annual Meeting luncheon. If you are not planning to attend the conference but would like to attend only the HANO Annual Meeting luncheon, you may do so by sending a check for $35, made payable to the Conference of Nonprofit Communities of Hawaii, to HANO at P.O.
